Notes As of 7 July 2026, Maxted's Exeter Working Papers in Book History and the BBTI both suggest that Thomas Booker ran the business from 1776 to 1804, and there is no mention of Elizabeth. Maxted's entry for Thomas reads "Brown gives the style as E. Booker 1776-1804 but directories consistently give the form Thomas Booker," and names only his successor, Joseph. Thomas Booker's will in The National Archives was proven 17 August 1793, and confirms Elizabeth inherited the business at his death (PROB 11/1235/201).
