"We are afraid, that the following pages should appear too difficult for children of eight or ten years old, if their thoughts have not been turned to subjects of the sort ... The intention of the writers is to prepare the mind for more difficult studies ... It is intended to be used in very short portions"--To parents, v. 2, p. [1]-4, dated Dec. 8, 1813, and signed: Richard Lovell Edgeworth and Maria Edgeworth.
