5045 Memoirs of Madame de Stahl. In two parts. Containing, a particular account of the plot, for which the Spanish Embassador, great numbers of the French nobility, and Madame de Stahl, were committed prisoners to the Bastile, and to several other prisons and castles in that kingdom. Her conduct under confinement; and the integrity she preserv'd, notwithstanding the artifices that were made use of to induce her to a discovery. With the intrigues of several persons of high rank, from some of which she had a narrow escape: and a relation of some state transactions, which throw new lights on the French history. Likewise some account of the conventual life, the lady having been brought up from her infancy in a nunnery in Normandy. The whole being a series of very extraordinary and interesting events; and is interspers'd with characters and anecdotes of several of the French Nobility, and of persons either belov'd or detested for their virtues or vices. Written by herself, in her last illness. Translated from the French. To which are added, historical and biographical notes, by the translator. Cordier de Launay , Marguerite-Jeanne (Author)
